Default newbie questions...

I am currently an '00 TTQC owner possibly looking to buy a used A4. Really like the DSG auto trans offered on 2004 and later TT's and was wondering if that option is available on the A4. I do see a tiptronic trans is offered but does it come with paddles or shifters on the steering wheel or just floor mounted. Also wondering about reliability issues, as I do love my TT but it has it's share of problems. Appreciate any advice you guys can offer. Lastly, what should I expect to pay for a 2004 model with appropriate mileage(25-30k). Thanks for your help.

Default 2007 tiptronic models have steering wheel paddle shifters....

DSG is not avail on the B7 chassis, unfortunately. Have you thought about an A3 3.2?

new to A4's I don't know what the B5, B6 or B7 designation means( I am assuming it refers to certain model years). Thought I did see an A4 with steering wheel shifters-did I not?

Default They made paddle shifters standard on B7s with Tip?

I thought they were only available with the S-Line package, otherwise, no paddles.

Default B7 is current generation. And I was under the impression that paddle shifters...

were only available on Tiptronic B7s with the S-Line package. It's still a Tip, not a DSG, but the paddles work the same way they do in DSG, without the lightning shifts of the DSG.

When we got ours, I thought the paddles were only available with S-Line, but who knows, maybe they made it standard on non-S-Line A4s.

Also, a 2004 model would be a B6, not a B7. For sure, no paddles on that one.

Default Hmm, just checked. It sounds like the 3.2 Tips get the paddle shifters standard...

but not the 2.0T?

Default Newp, only on SLine models.

and if he is looking for true paddle shifting ala DSG, he will be disappointed in the paddle tip.

Default Re: 2007 tiptronic models have steering wheel paddle shifters....

I have 07 3.2 tip Avant non S-line with paddle shifters. Although not instant like DSG, they work much better than I expected. I use them far more than I expected especially since the car goes into "manual mode" as soon as you use them i.e. you don't have to move shift lever into manual mode first. If you don't use paddle shifters for a few minutes the transmission reverts back to auto. Really a very useful feature.
