Will an RNS-E from any part of the globe work in the US?

Also, are there any functionality differences between US versions and other versions from around the world?

Yes.

The process is pretty easy and straight forward. Basically you fool the unit into accepting an update from a US DVD. This updates the firmware on the RNS-E to a fully functioning US unit (including satellite radio).
