Default Does this make sense???

I have the '07 Symphony II+ on my '07 Audi. Never really considered getting the NAV b/c it is not that often that I don't know where I'm going.

I did ride with a friend who has NAV in his Q7 and thought it was pretty cool, so I looked on Ebay and it appears you can get an RNS-E unit new/lightly used for about $800.

My question is this: Why does anyone get the NAV option on an '07? I assume you could easily sell the Symphony II+ w/ MP3 capability for around 500-600 bucks which would cost you net 300 bucks for the NAV, instead of paying $2100 for the option from the dealer. Obviously, I don't think that I am the first person to think of this. Just curious to know if people who have done/are actually doing this and why anyone would ever buy NAV for 2 grand from the dealer...when you can essentially get 75% of the financial cost of the NAV option for free with the car.

Default A few reasons.......

Getting the NAV option gets you:

The color DIS

CD Changer in the glove compartment

Factory warranty coverage for the NAV+

It's very unlikely that you'll get anywhere near $500 selling your Symphony II+ privately.

Don't get me wrong, an aftermarket NAV+ upgrade can be a fantastic value.

It's also the only true OEM integrated Nav system so your car will look like you did get it from the factory.

All that said, you won't get all the benefits of getting NAV from the get go.

I agree. I know one person who got the nav+ later. He missed out on the color DIS, but more importantly, he had some problems with the new nav+. I'm not sure of the actual details but he seemed to have problems with nav signals, steering wheel functions, his DIS being incompatable with the phone function with the Nav+ and time to time with radio FM signals. Not sure really what to blame (installation or the Nav+ itself) but all the problem (still occuring) after he installed the Nav+. And of course, the dealer won't even look at the issues without spelling out $$$ first since there is no warrenty on it.

Default You get the color DIS which is a costly piece..

even if you got the nav for $800 the DIS would run you about $900-1000, plus a CD changer is about $250ish, so in reality you're not saving that much money. Besides, there is not a huge market for the Symph II

Gotcha...makes sense. Thanks for the insight. I will probably stick with my current navigation system (my own sense of direction + mirror compass + occasional use of an old-fashioned paper map)

I bought the Nav on ebay for 850 with all cables. It was plug and play and works great. For me the color dis wasn't important and I don't need a cd cahnger (nav give syou two sd slots for mp3s, plus I use my ipod for music).

I bought the 05 map dvd for $40 on ebay as well.

I love having the nav as it makes using the radio easier, plus even if I knwo where I azm going, it gives me multiple route options and distance.

Default This is why I ordered my RS4 with a Symphony, and retrofitted the RNS-E myself

... also meant I could have Bluetooth without the stupid and pointless cradle.
