Default Jerking Issue Update (kinda long)

Few weeks ago I posted an issue I found on my A4 where after a 350-or-so-mile trip my car started to "jerk". This issue occured during release of clutch and release of throttle while in gear. I've also mentioned that during that trip I've gotten short bursts of speed (max going up to 120mph) but drove 90%-or-so of the drive in 70-75mph. Just wanted to give an update for anyone who cares.

So I first took it in to the dealer to have them look at it under warrenty. They couldn't even tell there was a "jerk" to begin with so they just told me to quit whining and go home haha (they didn't really say that in that exact words). But I still noticed it. So just to confirm that I wasn't insane I took a weekend, got the clutch off and disassembled it. I found that the throw-out bearing was either mounted improperly or became mounted improperly (probably what happened during the "bursts" of speed). It was engaging off on an angle. I'm guessing this probably made the pressure plate unable to disengage fully. At the same time if the throw-out bearing was to be disengaged, it probably did it improperly as well. I think this made the P plate unable to engage. I caught the problem really early so there was no damage (also since the angular discrepencies were still within accpetable tolerance). I corrected it and the problem went away! woo hoo! If anyone is having similar problem maybe look into this. I can't guarantee that your having the problem due to the same issue I've had but you never know.

Good stuff. Thanks for sharing. Don't have the problem, but I'll keep this in mind.

Default Wow. How long did it take you to remove the transmission?

Did you purchase the car new or used? I wonder if the car had some clutch work done on it prior to you getting it. I hope this was not a factory error.

I suppose its possible that the throwout bearing moved as a result of some abuse. But I can't say i have ever heard of this. Hope to hell this never happens to me. Awesome post and thanks for the info!

This is a brand new 07 not even 3 months old (has 3200 miles in it). No prior clutch work what so ever. I'm guessing that there was a slight factory error to begin with but it was small enough that no one caught it. And after time, escpecially after going up to 120mph, the error continued to increase. I'm sure it was a luck of the draw really, so no need to worry about it (unless your having the same symptomes). I'm not sure of the exact time but the job took all day (and a little bit of the next day).

Default Well then. A wag of my finger to Audi and a tip of my hat to you sir.

I doubt their are many here who would have gone this far to find the source of the problem. Well done and again thanks for the info.
