Question about leasing a 2007 model in July/August timeframe
My understanding is that lease residual values go down by a few points as the new models get set to arrive. That would mean that lease payments would have to go up unless the MF is lowered by the lessor to make up for the drop in residual value. How do dealers move outgoing models in lease transactions during that time period, with incentives that lower the capitalized cost?
My dilemma is that my current A4 lease expires in late September and I want to lease my next car through the ED program. Since I will be picking up the car in Germany in late July, it would have to a 2007 model which is fine with me, but I don't want to pay more per month because the residual value is dropping.
1) Should I extend my A4 lease for 2 or 3 months so I can order a 2008 model instead? Can I expect the same monthly payments if this option is given by AFS?
2) Do I have any leverage to take advantage of any year-end incentives that might come up after I have placed my ED order or am I locked in as far as capitalized cost is concerned?
By the way, I am looking at either an X3 3.0si or 335i sedan.

By that time, most dealers should have very little 07 models in stock for that purpose...
the 2008 model year cars are ordered around late April early May and begin to arrive at dealers mid July. AS far as the ED program, only CASH deals qualify right now under that program. Best bet is to extend and wait for an 08 model. The best lease programs always come out in November and last until January.
