Touchup paint very dark
I picked up some meteor grey touchup paint from a dealer to fix a chip I picked up on the hood of my car. The paint of course consists of a paint "stick" and a clear coat "stick".
I have used the paint stick on the chip, and it is very dark...kind of a dark purple to almost black. It stands out terribly against the lighter paint (at the moment).
Am I doing anything wrong here? Will the color lighten as it dries? Anyone know how long I should let it dry before I apply the clear coat?
Looking for anyone who has used this color of touchup paint to let me know what their experience has been.

Re: Did you shake the $h!t out of it first before you applied it? That's important.
Well, I thought I had. I've shaken the tube a lot...and in fact 'tested' the paint on a benign surface (not on the car) several times and cannot see any significant change in the color despite additional shaking.
Just wondering if it lightens over time...or if the clear coat has any effect in terms of lightening...although I can't see how it would.

You might have applied too much...
I use a toothpick to apply paint to a chip. Just a small amount is needed and it will spread itself. You may need to use a compound, polish and wax to get it blend right.

How much $$$?
So I slightly hit a pole in my parking garage and should touch up the paint as well... Was just wondering how much the paint was from the dealership? Is it more for metallic paints i.e phantom black?

Can't help with your question but you should try Dr. ColorChip
as it really produces a great result. I've used it on a few chips on the S5 and the fix is practically invisible IMHO.<ul><li><a href="http://www.drcolorchip.com/">Dr. ColorChip</a></li></ul>
