Default Weird Experience with A5

I wanted to see if anyone else has ever had a similar experience with their A5. I experience an occasional dropout in power while accelerating or sometimes even just cruising. It is definitely more noticable while accelerating in the morning. This is really hard to describe. When taking off in first gear, when the RPM's get close to 4K, I notice a split second lurch, dropout, hiccup in power until I shift to second. This will also happen in second gear. I notice it really only when the engine is cold and as each gear approaches 4K RPM's. Almost the shift point I guess. It is almost as if the engine is telling me to shift. After the engine warms up, it seems to go away.
While crusing in 5th gear, it will occasionally have this same feeling. It is so noticable that even my wife asked me if I was screwing around. I told her it was the car. She could point out each time it would lurch.
Haven't taken it to the dealer yet. Wanted to ask around for any advice or similar experience because you know as soon as I take it in, it will not happen for them. Wanted a bit of ammo.

Any ideas or help are appreciated.

Thanks,
Toby

Can't say I've experienced anything like you've described.

Default Had same thing with my '08 TT 3.2

lasted around a week, then drove it hard for a couple of days, and the problem hasn't returned since. Fuel pump problem? Contaminated fuel? Dealer actually took it for an overnight and couldn't replicate the problem - none since.

Default Yes, this happens to me when I first start up cold.

It will lurch on the first few takeoffs when it's been sitting all night or all day, but only when it's cold out. Engine revs fine, but then when you engage the clutch it's as though the car cuts the throttle momentarily before reengaging. Makes for a lurchy start, but only for a minute. Fine after it warms up just a little.

Default occassionally get that, but ive got so many issues, ive stopped counting

This one seemed relatively minor, and doesnt happen often. Maybe once a month. But I have noticed that all of my performance issues started after my 5000 mi service. Im at audi right now in fact, trying to figure out why the engine has weak power from 2500-3250k rpm. That, and also for a recall for something air filter related. Fun fun fun.

Default Yes, I was actually thinking of posting about this today too

I get the lurchy start a lot of the time. Usually just the first time I start off. However, I do also get the loss of power feeling while driving. It's very slight so the first few times I thought it was all in my head but it's done it enough now that I'm not sure.

Mine sounds a little different than yours though. The car just feels slugish and what I notice the most is when I put the clutch in to shift the car slows down like I'm braking even though I'm not touching the brake and the rpm's drop really fast. It also happens sometimes even when the car has warmed up. Unfortunately it only happens once a month or so so I can't really get the shop to diagnose it.

Default Do you all have manuals? I wonder if its somehow transmission-related

Not that it's due to the transmission itself, but maybe the ECU programming for MT cars somehow causes this.

I wonder if maybe this has to do with the variable-valve timing or particularly direct injection, especially if it is at low temps and mainly when starting.
