Another amp/booster bites the dust due to window tinting

Just had my windows tinted last Friday, even warned the guy to be very careful. Within 5 minutes of leaving the house I had an electrical smell and then the radio cut out. This was followed by pops, cracks and static. After discussing it with the dealer, I guess the water follows the C pillar down and drops right on top of the amp in the left rear quarter panel. Luckily the tint co. is owning up to it and will pay all associated costs, which by the way is about 1400 bucks. In any event, just wanted to put out a friendly reminder in the event you get your windows tinted.

All you have to do is stuff the space with the amps with towels

Sorry about your troubles, but it has been recommended before. Even if they're careful during the tinting process the chances of it happening are still very high. Just stuff the little amp closet with towels...

This is the main reason I haven't done this yet, although....

...I really want tint. I mean, if one tells the company, and they still fu&% it up, what is up with that??

Stuff it with towels yourself. You'll be fine, it's worth it.

Exactly what the dealer does. They said that they pull the amp rack forward

and cover it up with towles. Good info, just a little late for my situation. Just wanted to help ensure it didn't happen to anyone else on here.

Wait... so what in the tinting process is causing the amps to get wet?

Open the trunk, there's a cubby hole to your left with the amp and other MMI whatnot in there

When tinting the rear window, water can (read: probably will) trickle down the c-pillar and leak onto the amp, shorting it out as soon as you turn it on.

If you stuff said cubbyhole with towels (or just cover the hardware with something, really), it won't happen.

I do like the look. My DSB would crush. I will wrap with plastic, then stuff with towels...

...then wrap in plastic again.
