Gas Pedal Sticking Update...
I popped it into neutral to stop again and it kept revving while in neutral. From my shifter there was this noise, not sure what it was. Sorta sounded like when you try to shift and you don't put it all the way into gear, grinding gears. It happened so fast though, I don't think it was that. I had no burning clutch smell either. Had my foot on the clutch and turned off the engine, turned on a light stepped out and found my problem. But, my clutch felt softer after all this once i turned my car back on and started to drive again. (Luckily 2 blocks from house). Could it all haven been in my head with my clutch? Are there any ways to check how worn my clutch may be? I accelerated through the gears to check for slippage, non found. Anything else I can do to check it. Any suggestions?
I will pull my mat back from now on until I get new ones.
(BTW, I only have 1200 miles, so it shouldn't slip or be bad. Just as this is my first manual car I guess I am a little over concerned).
Have experienced the sticking pedal problem in my Saab due to mats sliding up and wedging under the pedals. Need to get retainer posts for the car at the next service. My car wash guy seems to break them off quite easily.
don't worry about your clutch. It will take no damage when you disengage while revs are high.
It only will take damage when you do it the other way around.
Sometimes you see/hear elderly people do this. They rev up to 5000 or so rpm and then engage 1st gear and let the clutch slowly engage, over and over again. This is when you can smell some material burning...
Again, you don't need to worry about your clutch at all with this one.
To check for slippage, you do not accelerate through the gears.
At stand still, you select 3rd gear, rev the engine slightly higher than normal when you usually start to drive and then let the clutch engage very quickly. If the clutch is o.k., your car will jump forward for maybe a foot or so but then come to a standstill.
If the clutch has slippage, the car would keep on driving.
A clutch is good for usually way more than a 100k miles.
Only if grandpa has it for a few weeks, engaging at 7000 rpm every time, it will affect its duration....
