Why does everyone seem to rash their wheels?
As you may have noticed, I have been looking for some used wheels and have been astounded by the large amounts of curb rash just about every wheel has. Why is this?
I just dug out the BBS RKs that were on our WRX to sell and in over 5 years of use, they have 0 rim rash and all of 2 rock chips.
Is this bad mounting/balancing shops or poor parallel parking skills?

I've tapped every right side wheel I have ever owned....
not terribly mind you, but enough to notice if your a perfectionist.
Mainly because I am always trying to get as close to the curb as possible since in my area all streets are narrow... both directions and parking on both sides...
So I try to get real close to avoid greater damage to the road exposed side of the car, and it sometimes happen that I can brush a curb.
I've also done it being careless/not paying attention.
Mind you the A4 wheels I had (Coyotes winter set-up) were the absolute easiest wheels to curb ever.

Im usually very cautious, but my apt driveway is the worst...mustve been built in the 70s
1 car lane wide and a fence on the left side, so you need to swing the front end wide so the rear wheel will clear. And I have kissed the curb ever so slightly like 3 times, so only my r/r rim is curbed haha.

when you live and drive in the city....
there is no time to care.
i rash the crap outta my wheels...and i just don't care anymore. it's the price ya pay living in nyc!
i used to live in europe for a few years...when i went to italy...i remembering seeing EVERY Lambo and Ferrari with hugely rashed wheels......i spoke with an italian guy there about it...and he said "it's a sign that the the car is being driven without being babied"
excellent.
