Default Headlamp problems

I'm getting a symbol on the computer readout of a lightbulb with an "X" through it... Checked headlamps. Left low beam is out. Fogs work, parking lights work. Went to the Dealer and they told me left lamp worked fine when they switched it to the right side, so it's not the bulb. They seemed to think I needed some kind of "modulator" that costs $700+. Without it, I may find myself with no lights at all some time soon. $700+ later, got the lightbulb with an "X" through it again this morning. Checked headlamps again, left one is out. Turned lights off, turned lights on. Left lamp comes back on and computer readout on dash disappears(?)

Any experience with this sort of madness out there?

I feel your pain. I've had to have the right one replaced and luckly it was done under warranty. Then less than a year later, the left one went. The stealership wanted to replace the left one and when I found out how much it costs to replace since it was out of warranty, I took it to an audi specialist and just tightened the connection. Everything has been working fine so far. The explanation that I got for the dealership is that the when the module goes bad, the entire headlight has to be replaced.

I have a similar problem with our right side headlight. But, when I shut the engine off, and then back on - the light comes back on. I find I get the (what I call Christmas) bulb sign on -- I have to have been driving for a few hours.

I'm still trying to get rid of the DING Ding ding that comes on when I hit 55 miles per hours... or the flashing that I need my legs stretched after 2:00 hours...

I always feel - I'll deal with it later - our nearest Audi dealer is 2.5 hours away... and is now aware of the problem.

You need to read your owners manual. The ding ding is your speed warning. You can turn that off yourself.

I had the same problem which was fixed under warranty. I do recall it was near a grand to fix. If I wasn't under warranty I would have done things differently. My light would go out after 10 - 15 miles.I would then shut my headlights off for few minutes, when I turned them back on suddenly the left light would work again. There was no problem with the right. The dealer replaced the bulb and I think a sending unit. Hope this helps you.

The ding ding sound will reset when engine turned off. But when you are running and you pressed the left side button.. it is as you are setting a speed limit warning. say you pressed it at 60 mph.. it will sound if you are over that 60mph.

Tightened WHICH connection? I have been having this issue for years. I just thought it was a "feature."
