Reprogramming a 36k cluster from an 01 couple for my 01 Roadster
My current cluster issue...is mainly with the temp gauge. Used to read two ticks "high" on the temp gauge. A few weeks ago (I have VAGCOM) I ran a output test on the cluster and all the movements were fine accept for the temp gauge (when car is cold, turn to accessory and the gauge comes up to just below half way), etc. However, after the output tests on the cluster...now she reads 1 tick below normal.
No pixy issues... tach seems a bit goofy sometimes, but its not that bad. Just more of an annoyance with the temp gauge though. Tried to source a cluster to "fix" the problem by seeing how close a B5 cluster movement was, etc. to no avail. So really, at this point....live with it, find a used cluster or get a rebuild or buy new
Well, was able to find a cluster from an 01 coupe with about 36k on it with NO cluster issues.
What I'd like to do is swap this one in its entirety into my 01 225Q roadster....
A few questions...
-There shouldn't be any difference between the coupe/roadster cluster right? Even though the cluster comes from a coupe, it will still have the "ragtop" lights, etc. built in... right?
-Since the cluster has less than 60k on it...I should be able to recode the mileage on it to my current mileage on the car. Haven't found the "how to" info on this...
-Third...my cluster is IMMO3, I'm sure this one probably will be too...I'd rather just use the entire cluster rather than use it for "parts" (i.e. take the working temp gauge out, swap into current cluster, etc.) since it is such a low miles cluster. I can't pull my SKC number though can I with VAGCOM?
-From there...what is the best way to go about it? I have to go through the ROSSTECH FAQ on the swap...i know its possible. Guess the SKC is what bothers me the most.
Definitive way of checking for IMMO2 vs. IMMO3 is looking to see if you have the "key" light when the accessory switch/contact ignition is turned on right?
Guess I'm looking at the best way of doing it when the cluster gets here. Too good of a deal to pass up (either way...for parts, or entire use).
