A6 3.0 'Limited Edition'?
I am new to the forum - I have just bought a 2001 A6 3.0 Quattro Tiptronic Limited Edition.
I have not been able to find out much about my car online and I had hoped that some guru may have more info for me.
Mainly I'd like to know what the 'Limited Edition' is all about - as far as I can tell this car is identical to the 2002 3.0 apart from the color coded bumpers, maybe it was a very late '01 just slightly before the introduction of the '02?
It also has the red racing badge that you see in today's S line. I was wondering if this was a precursor to the S line, ie: did Audi have the S line in 2001 and if not is this then the equivalent?
An interesting side note is that my insurance company here in South Africa were unable to find the car in the 'blue book' and asked me to contact a dealer for a valuation. The dealer said that this car is not in the book as there were so few brought into the country - he suggested adding a few thousand to the similar year model A6 2.8 Quattro.
So basically there is some intrigue in the background of my new car. If anyone has any knowledge on the subject I'd be very interested.
Thanks in advance!
I too bought a 2002 A6 3.0 quattro tip and want to know more, but thats got more to do with me as i am looking for the right forum.

It sounds to me that you have a standard 2001 A6 3.0 SE, this not an S-line as was sold towards the run-out of the C5, but simply an SE, which cars seem to be as the standard spec was pretty poor. - cloth, comfort seats, no multi CD, solid paint...etc...
The insurance Co. should have no problems finding it as the 3.0 replaced the 2.8 in about 2001 - I think the change was designated by the revised front grille - straight edged down to the bumper rather than in a separate 'frame' as on the earlier cars.

The entire hood--not just the grille--is one reason why the newer '02+ newer headlights won't fit -'01 V6 models as the newer style hood overhang is wider at its base where it meets the bumper cover making the headlight cutouts more vertical.
The whole 4.2 front end is longer so it was not a case of taking 4.2 parts and putting them onto the 2.8/2.7 body, it was re-design of the parts for that car. I beleive after the A pillar they are the same but vitually none of the front end parts are interchangeable even though they look at a casual glance that they would be....

I simply bought a car for which there seems to be very little data.
The responses that intimated a late 2001-early 2002 were bang on. Most dealers would delay the delivery to the following year in cases where there was a new rollout very late in the year, the chap who bought my car new was obviously in a hurry to take deliver - cant say I blame him

Not sure what the insurance guys should or should not have problems with but I can tell you they did have problems finding mine... it is now insured as a 2003 spec despite the book being marked Dec 2001.
This is interesting. Mine has the 2 section grille (bumper runs through it about 2 3rds down) but the spoilers are not colour coded like the 2002 models are (kind of resembles the Allroad in this regard). I need to get round to the parts dept and compare my headlights - they are definitely quite narrow toward the outside and larger/rounded closer to the grille.
...maybe I need to give her a wash and get some pics up.
Thanks for the responses.

BTW: I have since discovered that the racing badge (silver and red stripes) was placed on the car independently - the dealer has my car on file by VIN # and they confirmed taht it only went out with the normal badges + Quattro badge. So someone fancied themselves a bit of a bot racer
