Anyone ever managed to take the trunk chrome lip off intact?
According to Bentley it "can't be removed non-destructively". However, looking at the schemas, it seems like it COULD be possible, with a heatgun maybe.
80$ shipped is the cheapest I,ve found on ebay, if I can save that...!

I would not use a heat gun. Even if you do get it off you will need to find a 2 sided tape that works and also hope any of the clips dont break. Thats why bently may say that becasue of the clips. I did not look at mine when I took it off.
If your just looking to paint then tape everything off and paper the back half of the car. Call it a day.

Thanks for the reply. Indeed I'm having the trunk painted, but because there is a small rust spot on the edges of the license plate trim and the chrome trim, and the rust originates from under that chrome piece. Don,t want it to re-appear in 6 months!
As for putting it back on, if it is still intact, my body shop suggested using urethane - it's permanent and damn strong; why would I ever take it off again for?
How did yours look after taking it off, besides the clip?

Oh, I thought maybe you were blacking out the trim. If your doing all the work and painting the deck lid just buy a new chrome piece.
Urthane?? That sounds like a terrable idea. The strip tends to discolor and they are cheap anyway why have it fixed on with urethane?
I did not really care about the condition so I did not pay attention. It went straight in the trash.
