Default Special Tools

I need to do my valve cover gaskets and cam seals. I wanted to know a good source for renting or buying VAG special tools. I know that some of the sites that sell gasket kits rent out tools. Is there a place that is generally used or recommended in these forums?

Cam seals or cam adjuster seals? Both require special tools, but they are vastly different.

If cam seals, I suggest you consider doing cam adjuster seals too.

How soon is your timing belt due?

EBay seller El Paso Tool is good.

I've also bought tools from ZDmak also on Ebay

Watch for specials as sometimes they'll advertise free shipping on certain items.

To 4Driver4, it's whatever is involved with stopping the oil leaks associated with the valve cover and valve cover area. I haven't looked at my Bentley manual in a while, but that's what i plan to do. My timing belt is good, but I know that my thermostat doesn't close anymore, which may say something about the water pump, and if I have to do that, so goes the timing belt, alternator belt, etc.

If I had a bad t-stat and a bunch of oil leaks, I'd do the full timing belt service. Not sure what you mean by "belt is OK".

Regarding the leaks at the head, there are valve cover gaskets, cam adjuster seals (2), cam seals (4) and cam plugs(2), all of which can leak near the valve cover gasket.

If you opt out of timing belt (again, bad idea, IMHO) you should be able to get both cam adjuster seals, both cam plugs, and the cam seal on the back of bank two (left side).

Or at the very least, please 'quote' or 'reply to' posts..
