Help! High pitched low volume sound coming from engine
2002 A6 3.0 with 93K miles
Timing belt, water pump, and fuel pump were changed last month. Spark plugs and coilpacks were replaced 2 months in Jan.
Oil changed and air filter replaced last week.
Check engine light came on 2 days ago. Code mentioned MAF, which I relaced but with no result.
The car stalled twice when I was at a light yesterday. Now the car will start but will idle wildly and go to about 200 rpm and the whole engine shakes and there are some clinking sounds but I cannot pinpoint the location. Then the car shuts off. Under the hood there is a high pitch and low volume sound coming from somewhere near the center of the engine after it stalls that last for about 15-20 seconds and then a "click" and then its quiet.
Anyone had this problem? I've searched the archives but can't seem to find anything useful.
