Default Manual Trans A6 as a first car- NO!!!!

Just don't do it. I know it sounds cool but the 2.7t with the manual trans is not really easy to drive. Plus this car is kind of expensive to keep up with. Parts are expensive and labor is like a joke. I still love my 2.7t but I won't no recommend it to anyone. This car drives like no other, but it also costs like one. You will like the A6 for sure, but can you really afford it?

If the person has been trained driving a manual tranny, nad is a responsible audlt (not a teenager), then yes. Otherwise, get a cheap older Toyota or Honda and let the driver gain some experience.

I would firmly endorse a stick car as a first car. It helps keep the driver focused. That said, I agree that a huge heavy Audi with gobs of torque and an inexperienced clutch user could be trouble. How 'bout a 2000 Jetta with a 2.0 and a five speed?

4.2 can still be as quick as a 2.7t, no way should that be a kids first car.

In some repsects, yes. In many other respects, no. If safety is a key consideration the Audi is a good choice - but so are many other makes. ABS, quattro, air bags, etc. make it a good choice for safety. But, I would worry about the size (it's a lot of car to handle) the power (very tempting for a teenager) and finally the cost of maintenance and general upkeep.
That said, I worry less about having a fast car and more on teaching responsible driving behaviour. In the end, practically any car can go fast enough to kill/maim the occupants and others. knowing how to drive responsibly is the answer to this.
