Default Thinking about buying...

So I have been researching the A6 for about 2 months. I checked with several lots/dealers and they do not have the car I want. What I want is an '01 or older A6 2.7t with the 6-speed.

Ill just come out and ask: Does anyone in eastern Kentucky own this car that would let me drive one? Sure, I can go to Audi and drive an '09, but they are all automatic (boo). Anyhow, I have driven one around in a parking lot, and I rather liked it, but I need to actually drive one like more than 1000 feet.

I have chosen the '01 or older because (as I believe) they did not use the smart key/immobilizer systems until '02 (please correct me if I am wrong). As is asked often, this will not be my first car, and yes, I can afford the labor/parts.

Thanks!

Immobilizer started in 2001 with a few exceptions...what's the issue with the immobilizer? If you're chipping the car, it can be cloned from your ECU.

GBW, I have never own a car with an immobilizer system that worked after about 6 months. Then its to the dealer to get it reprogrammed. So, I don't want to deal with that. If the chip can "bypass" that, and I don't have to worry about the key, then great!

How many immobilizers have you had fail? I don't think that would be a very common experience, I know I've had several with no issues, including some cloned codes by a GIAC dealer for about $50. The issues you seem to have seem out of the ordinary. Most newer cars (if not all) today have some type of immobilizer...you can't drive a 2000 model year forever

Well, I can sure try! I have a 93 MR2 as a weekend/track car, and it doesn't have any of that "BS". I would drive it every day, but it really doesn't like the rain, and snow... well.
I rather dislike the immobilizers, and the very idea strikes a nerve with me. Anyhow, I have had 3 cars fail on me multiple times (4 if you count my mothers new Chevy). Perhaps it's me, and the things don't like me. To me, this system is just one more thing that Dealers can make money on. I wounder if I could rip out the transponder and tape it to the ignition! That would solve all my problems.
