Sludge yes.

There is poor crank case ventilation. Usually the sludge builds up under the valve cover. There are quite a few threads here that discuss common tt problems. Read through sway bar and 1st gear grind. All the quarks of the TT are listed.

I run only synthetic in my TT. You can come look at the sludge. I changed the oil my self and use mobil 1. I also do 5k mile oil changes which is half of audi's recommendation according to the service manual. So know the cars uses synthetic for a fact and am not getting slipped regular oil for the price of synthetic by a shop.

Default No issues with sludge in 93000 miles

I replaced valve cover gasket last month and everything was clean as a pin. I use Mobil 1 0 -40 and change at 7500 miles. The PCV system is a chronic failure point and most have to replace tubing and valves ect at about 80,000 miles. Failure to do so might cause sludging. Don't know. Does start to leak oil when things tear and does make valve cover gaskets tend to leak when the suction jet pump gets clogged. I've always read that the TT held more oil than the inline 1.8s and was less apt to have sludge problems. Few reports of sludge problems in the five years I have followed the TT forum.

I love these types of failures with cars in mass production. You get geographical failures. The guy down south barely ever see's dew point. Where people up north see dew point all the time. Where is the guy to chime in with I live up north and don't see any white sludge. Oh wait my car is garage kept that must be why. Thats when statistics has to be used to determine how many cars are in certain conditions to predict what warranty costs are. Thats the purpose of silent recalls. You can knock out geographical failures with out recalling the whole fleet. since most cars never cross into regions they weren't designed to be in. Auto companies are slick like that. It also helps to fix enough of the cars so there is a lot less people for a class action suit. But the business case to determine financial loss from a class suit vs warranty vs silent recall is very complex. But will always minimize rework costs in the long run.

Just for any one thats wants to blame it on short trip driving. My daily drive is 30 miles for 45 minutes.

The weekend drive 280miles one way non-stop. So I am not classified as a short trip driver.
