C5s selling well below KBB value??
I am considering selling my '01 A6 2.7TQ 6MT with 120K miles on it. KBB value is $8,900 - $9,500 depending on condition. However, my "market research" tells me that the cars are advertised in the $7,000 - $7,500 neighborhood. To be sure, there are a number of advertisements at $10,000+, but that seems insane to me.
Am I just asking for disappointment if I advertise at or just below KBB value?
Alternatively, what do you think is a fair price? The car itself is in excellent condition and I am constantly complimented by people (who don't really know any better) that the car "looks new". It has sport suspension, sport seats, winter package, factory nav, BOSE, 6MT, Stratmosphere short shifter, IMP Concepts LED boost gauge in tach, APR Stage 1 tune, TB/WP/pulley service at 118K miles. I also have a brand new set Kumho Ecsta tires that will be installed next week. I also have an RNS-E nav unit installed, but I can't decide if I want that to go with the car or if I will part it out.
What is a fair price for this, in your opinion?

Seriously, though... what do you mean that the 6MT muddies the water? I presume you a referring to the relative rarity of the manual cars. I think combined with the factory sport package (primarily the seats), this is a desirable car. Care to speculate on a fair price for what I described? I know you've been around here for a long time, 4D4, so your opinion is very valuable!

Exactly. The 6 speed is often a deduction in valuation books, but the rarity in this model makes it a big plus for someone looking for one.
Pricing is always difficult with these cars, but if you have a sport with 6 speed, I would think it would be worth at the top of the range to the right person...whatever the range is these days.
My suggestion would be to spend some time looking at the classified ads here, on audifans, autotrader, and craigslist (use crazedlist to search several areas at once). When you do decide to sell it, post a zillion pictures. Pics sell cars.
I know that's still vague, but pricing for the C5 changes daily.

No, it's good advice! I've been a crazedlist fiend over the past few days. That's were I saw lots of the '01 C5s over $10,000K... some even at $13K. Ridiculous. AutoTrader seems to present the most dismal outlook with most ~$7.5K... but mostly Tip cars with medium option levels and no sport packages. So, maybe I'm not crazy to price in the low to mid-8s.

i think mid 8's is probably a pretty good level -- the 120k might weigh it into the 7's, possibly.
it's a tough market right now but if you have the patience to wait for the right buyer, you'll probably get around 8 for it. If you need to sell it fast you should probably consider accepting offers in the mid-low 7 range..

In response to your question-the problem with the residual values on these cars is that VW/Audi has the lowest rating of all major vehicle manufacuturers for trouble-prone cars as they age, 6 years/up. It is extremely expensive to repair these cars, even for seemingly little things. My '00 Avant has eaten about $4K in repairs over the past twelve months. I think the real-world realities affect what these cars will fetch in the marketplace. People hear/read the reports, and they know.

Depends so much on condition. If it's like new, the right buyer will pay 10k even with 120k miles. If you want to sell it fast, you'll have to get the price down on the low end regardless of condition.

Thanks for all of the advice -- all great points. I've always known the residual value on Audis was a little disappointing... I just now have to deal with it. Anyone want a good deal on a fast 2.7T C5 with a 6-speed?
