Battery Charging Issue?

Battery Charging Issue?
I just did my timing belt in my 2004 A6 2.7T (pain in the butt - I don't recommend it). When finished (2 days later) battery was too weak to turn over. I put my cheap old charger on it, it took a 10 Amp charge for about 30 minutes, then the horn on the car kind of "burped" and the charger quit charging. I repeated that process again tonight, with the same results. As I was removing the charger, I heard something in the engine compartment click, like it reset. So I hooked the charger back up, and it started charging again. Any ideas what is going on?

I don't think it's the alarm going off. There is only one "chirp", right when the charger quits, and it is from the front horn. I thought the alarm horn was trunk mounted. I don't doubt that I could have a bad battery, though. Vehicle purchased 1 yr ago as certified used, so I have no idea how old the battery is.
