Doing the timing belt on my MY2000 A6 2.8 ...
Seem to remember when I did it on the S4 it was a good idea to swap out the aux. water pump.
Is there any benefit in replacing the tensioner damper (not part of the standard timing belt kit)? 85k on the clock.
- OEM Tensioning damper (Many kits don't include this!)
- OEM Tensioner Roller
- OEM Relay Roller
- OEM Tensioner Lever Arm (Many kits don't include this either!)
- OEM Timing Belt
- OEM Behr Thermostat with O-Ring
- OEM Serpentine Belt
- All Metal Water Pump
It is foolish to do all that work without addressing all the seals commonly leak on the 2.8. Do all the seals with the belt and you'll have no leaks between belt changes.
I'll spare everyone a repost of my often posted list of seals.
Tension from my new unit vs. old was a big improvement.
Bought a timing belt replacement kit from Blau and the water pump started leaking after about 1 year. I would suggest you pony up for the genuine Audi parts.
You can get by without the factory alignment bar if you use a straight edge and pair of calipers.
Good luck! Easy job.
Joe.
Compared to 4 years ago (when I did this), prices have come way down - back then the blau kit + tool rental was $560.
