Default Power Dilema

Hey,
I recently bought a 1999 A6 quattro off my dad. It had the 2.8 in it now and I am having trouble. Do any of you know if a 2.7 Bi-Turbo swap is possible or how difficult it would be? Or should I just turbo my existing engine? I am an auto student in college so naturally I dont have alot of money to do it but I would like so extra power in my audi. Any suggestions and help is greatly appreciated.

Default Fix car. Drive car. Enjoy car.

If you need a car with turbos, sell car and buy one with turbos. There is no economical way to turbo what you have. Way cheaper to sell and replace.

First off, you're better off just trading in the 2.8 for a 4.2 or even a 2.7 if you'd prefer it.
2nd, there is no turbo for the 2.8, only the PES Supercharger... but if you're having "trouble" with the engine adding the extra increase in psi isn't going to solve your issues, it'll just add wood to the fire ... especially when you don't have any experience with the Audis.

I have a 2.8
They're not the fastest cars in the world. Then again when money is low beggars can't be choosers. The speed limit is the same for everyone no matter what car you drive.

*smacks forehead* Possible yes. EXPENSIVE yes. You'll need a whole donor car and a LOT of $$ and time.

Seriously - don't even think about it.

As for turbo on your 2.8 car..... again, possible but just no. No.

I think you said it best.. due to the fact that he would need an entire 2.7t a6 as a donor to 'swap', he might as well just drive the donor car.

So the verdict is- Drive the 2.8 until you can afford to buy a better one. Do some research on engines and reliability of years and you'll have more luck next time around. I like the 2.8, its not that bad of an engine. I've had 1/3 the engine issues as from what i've seen around the forums from te 2.7t's.

Default Keep on driving the 2.8

They are not nearly as fast as the 2.7t but much cheaper.

By the way, what's with all those negative opinions about the 2.7t engine? Only cars that are not taken care of properly and are driven really hard have issues. Well maintained 2.7t's last well over 200,000 miles without issues. A friend of mine has A6 2.7t (just like mine) with 180,000 miles and the car still has the original KO3's out of the factory.

The 2.8 NA is a solid reliable engine for sure. Cheap and easy to fix for 99% of the time.
