Default positive side battery cable..

Leaky battery had disintegrated my positive battery cable. I need to replace it. It seems straight forward, other than I can't see where it connects to from under the hood. Does anybody have any info for this procedure? Thanks in advance.

I've never done this, but I would guess that there would be a connection to the alternator. Should be easy enough to do. If you can wait, I will look at the Bentley tonight.

Here are a couple of reference pictures for you. I looked at the Bentley Manual, and there does not appear to be any specific instructions for removing that cable harness. I would imagine that the positive lead, from teh wiring diagram, is conected to the alternator, battery, and starter, as well as the power leads under the dash.

Part diagram (Component #15):

Note similar part number #1 but that is for the 1.8T engine in Europe. I could not find a listing for the 2.8.

Sorry I could not find anything else about removal, but I'm sure it is not easy :P

Actually, I should have mentioned the battery cable is needed for an '01 A6 2.7T, my bad. Still waiting for the cable to be shipped, hopefully soon. I'll keep everybody posted as to how and how difficult it is to swap out.

First and foremost, I want to thank Boston Driver for the wiring diagram.

The dealer told me it was a three hour job..really discouraging. It was impossible to get to the proper connections without totally disassembling many parts. I also received the wrong part from a junk yard...grrr.

Decided to repair as opposed to try to get the right part and tackle the seemingly impossible. Spliced the wire needed and connected them between two side post battery mounts with a bolt in the middle holding the two pieces together. Taped and zip tied it out of the way from any bare metal. Totally worked out beautifully.

I'll definitely be keeping an eye on that battery leakage in the future.
