Go to RS6.com and search the forums. Been covered many times, in short, not in the U.S. Been done by MTM, and going to be attempted by a U.K. RS6 specialist.

It's really not feasible, as the RS6 block will not bolt up to any Audi 6 speed manual trans. MTM t one time was charging 20-25,000 Euro for a conversion. You will have to transplant the RS6 engine internals into a 40V V8 block or make an adaptor plate to mate the stock RS6 engine to an 01E which means custom flywheel, mounts shifter etc.

Then there is the electronics to deal with!

Default Have you tested this yourself or where are you getting your information?

Where did you get your information that it will not bolt up to any Audi gearbox? Have you had first hand experience with mounting any manual to an RS6 engine yourself? I have a spare engine which is being built up at the moment and have done a quick test of a manual and first look seems like it might work. I will know for sure in the next week or 2. Once I have tested and got the clutch/flywheel sorted I will post pics.

I get my information from the RS6 engines I have sold and the 01E transmissions I rebuild.

The torque converter on the RS6 is quite a bit larger than on the V8 cars and the bolt pattern on the bell housing is larger in circumference to accommodate the larger torque converter.

Also here are some other links for non believers..

Default oh well....

Well anyone trying to use an 01E against any decent engine is asking for trouble anyway, and there is no way that it would hold up to a built RS6 engine anyway.

I'm looking at using an 0A3 tranny, which seems to bolt up to most of the holes except the lower holes which seems to be the only holes that don't match up, even the upper starter motor bolt matches perfectly, the lower one needs a little adjustment I think, next week I will have the gearbox and engine in the same location, if everything goes well....

I just think it's funny how most people say it can't be done, it's not possible but no one has actually physically tried it they just go on what everyone else says...

I'm building a spare RS6 engine with forged internals (rods/pistons), 8.5:1 compression oversized stainless valves. I will be putting an 0A3 gearbox against it even if I have to create an adapter plate (worst case).

Default ooops nearly forgot

01E may be ok if you put a ppg type gear set in it, but in any std form S4/RS4 it is just not strong enough, especially if you are going to put 2xHKS GT-RS' running 25psi on the engine.

Default As an example.... pistons

Most people think, because someone posted it somewhere that the std pistons are forged.... which they are not!!! I just pulled the engine down last week and was shocked to find cast pistons.... And yet everyone tells me they are forged! Total crap

The 0A3 isn't any "Stronger" than the 01E. The rating by for both transmissions by Getrag was the same 400-450 N/M. With the elimination of the cast steel center section in leu of the sheetmetal supporting center piece I'd be willing to bet that when torqued the 0A3 won't last. 01E's can take an enourmous amount of abuse if treated properly.

The 0A3/0A2 however does have an improved syncro setup.
