Default Spark Plug Replacement

I need to replace the spark plugs in my 98 A4 2.8. The parts supplier is recommending platinum plugs. Does anyone know if the type of plugs make a difference?

Try to stick with what's stock for your application. The parts store will always try to upsell you.

Yep, Stock is best for most Audis.

I agree with others, no need for the platinum plugs in there.
Look for an ngk BKR6EKUB or bosch FR7LDC+

If you are leaving them in for more than 20k-25k miles I recommend platinum plugs or other long-life plug over a basic $1.50 copper plug. I'd be surprised if the stock plugs were not platinum. The FR7LDC+ has 'yttrium technology' perhaps better for wear resistance than platinum.

I generally use copper plugs on engines where I expect to have the plugs out for one reason or another every couple of years, 50-100k life is not a factor in those engines. Otherwise I have generally gotten Platinum plugs and I have also avoided side gaps and multi-prong electrodes. Those I feel are more for life beyond 50k miles and I do not like to leave any plug in that long. They get kinda hard to remove, and I doubt I'll ever not be wondering what's up inside that cylinder for more than 50K miles at a stretch.

I have been running Denso Iridium in my 98' for the past 10 years and they are great. Idle was much smoother after replacement. I only have 65k miles on the car but my 01' RX-300 came from Lexus with them and I have 105k miles on the car.

Note these plugs seem to have issues with turbo cars but not NA ones. The fact that Toyota/Lexus has chosen to use them says a lot and that I have got so many miles without issues on the RX
