s4 owner considering RS6
I have a 93 s4 that I cannot seem to walk away from. Kind of like that girlfreind that is fun to drive but high maintenance and fun to drive as well. So much for the comparisons.
Anyway, the wifes Acura will be paid off this summer and now it is my turn for an upgrade. I have had several audis and the only one that is the right size with the right amount of power appears to be the RS8.
With prices somewhat reasonable, I have a question on maintenance.
In reading the forum I see that the suspension system and transmissions are weak points with a possible resolution to the suspension system in the works thru the dealers.
Are there any other major or minor issues that plague these cars more so than say any other audi? I know this has been addressed before, but any new light on the subject would be appreciated.
On another note, I drove a new A5 last week with a 6 speed manual. Nice car but my old S4 is faster. The S5 would be the way to go, but the back seat is so small not even a midget would have enough room.

check out/search RS6.com also as more on the maintenance end there plus rough breakdowns on costs. Problem is that the items are double the price and wear out at double the rate. So it does take more to maintain. You MUST have an extended warranty period so factor that in.

If you do your own maintenance, or at least the routine stuff the car in my case isn't too bad. My car now has 56K and a few of the vacuum lines under the car were looking bad so I started replacing all of the smaller ones with silicone lines. I would completely agree with you on the items that are weak, transmission (maybe an Audi fix, we'll see if their fix lasts but their are aftermarket coilovers that will work), the transmission, weak and expensive. Their are a couple of east coast transmission shops that say they can repair and strengthen the RS6 box but it remains to be seen whether this is true, a few S4tt guys as well as one or two RS6 guys have had their trannies done by these shops. Timing belt at 35K & 70K is expensive, same tools to do it as the 2.7tt motor if you are a do it yourselfer.
