Coolant Temperature STUCK AT 30.0 C
I just noticed today that my Temp Gage does not rise above the bottom mark. When the car is off it drops a bit below but once the car is on, the needle stays at the bottom line.
This was after my usually 17 mile commute, 80 plus degree day (F).
I checked with Vag=com (VCDS) and the control reports an error Coolant Temperature Sensor G2...
I looked at block 003 and 086, 003 logs engine temp =30.0 C, and 086 reports speed, rpm, coolant temp and oil temp. The oil temp gage works fine.
Sounds like the Coolant Temp Sensor is bad, but the diagnostic tree from Bentley says if 003 reports a reading (any reading) then it's the instrument cluster???
Any experience changing that sensor? Big deal? DIY?
(PS my real concern is that the after car shut down keep the turbos cool pump will not run if the temp is below 60)

But I just finished fixing the problem I believe the mechanic caused when he did the repair.
The sensor is back at the firewall and the air cleaner must be removed to get back there. My car developed a leak
in the secondary air system (part of emissions) and after reading in the service manual I located the system parts to check.
Turns out he must have snagged the vacuum hose going to the control valve on the drivers side. The hose was torn. I fixed it and cleared the error code. I'll know for sure if it's fixed after I drive arround a bit.
So getting to the sensor is no big deal. The connector for the MAF sensor is a tight fit on the drivers side but otherwise removing the air cleaner housing is east. After that you're looking at the sensor.
