Default Considering purchase of RS 6, opinions please...!!

Hello, I am a native to Audi ownership having owned 3 different S4's one being stage 3, and currently an S5. I have lusted over an RS 6 since it's release, although have never been able to justify getting one. I have now found a very well priced LOW mileage 1-owner car. It has 19,000 miles and is in amazing shape. Not a chance that it was ever modified, and just had the DRC recall taken care of last month.

More than anything i would love to hear any comments on the reliability of the cars with 70+k on them. How many of you have chipped your cars and had consistent reliability? What is the most common component to fail?

Thanks and I really hope to join the exclusive RS 6 crowd that i have admired for years!

If your still able to purchase the Audi/Fidelity extended warrranty from an Audi dealer...then your all set.

RS6 . com

Check over there. Search engine and threads going back to 2003.

You can buy a full coverage policy for 4k. 6/72k plan and you have no worries. Hurry and buy the car.

Default Absolutely

I purchased an RS6 18 months ago, and have been loving it. I drive it as my everyday ride and also have taken it to an Audi Club track event. It was even more fun on the track than the road (no speeding tickets). Parts are pricey, so this is not a cheap car to run (tires, brakes, and the manditory belt changes somewhere around 40K miles).

I've had my RS6 for 30 months. Now has 84k miles. O.CT ecu/tcu chips the last 18 months. DRC is the #1 failure items. Trans seems to be another area of concern. I have an after market insurance plan for my peace of mind. Parts/repairs are even more expensive than other audi's.

This is my daily driver year-around. I've got snow's for the winter and love it. I had an A6-4.2 and S6 Avant prior to the rs. For sheer fun, nothing compares to the torque of this car. Especially after the chip. I think it's a good value at today's prices compared to the other options out there.

Other Ramblings: I picked this car over an E55 due to the seemingly larger interior space and all wheel drive. Yes, I track my car also. It is a heavy car and especially nose heavy.

For what it's worth, Jim

Default Absolutely buy one!

I have had mine for 18 months. Got it with 35K miles and now have over 55K. I drive it almost every day on a short commute, have taken it on longer road trips, and have run it at the track. It did come with an extended factory warrantee, which I do recommend if possible.

The only major problem I have had was the transmission (torque converter) began slipping. Under warrantee, Audi replaced the entire transmission with a brand new one at no cost to me. My suspension has been fine, but I am taking advantage of the DRC recall and getting all new DRC and shocks in 2 weeks at Audi's expense.

Weak points are the stock brake pads (front, especially), as the RS6 is a very heavy car. I have upgraded to the red stuff and am very happy. I run 20" ultra-light wheels in the summer and 19" in the messy months.

Have not chipped it yet, but planning on that (proabably APR, but still investigating) in the spring. Even stock, the 40-100mph acceleration is awesome.
