Default Aftermarket Rear Shelf Speakers

Does anyone have aftermarket rear shelf speakers with the stock Blose head unit? What do you have? One of my speakers is blown and I was thinking of swapping out both of them with a pair of 6 1/2" Infinity Reference 2ohm speakers. Now the way I understand it, the stock Blose speakers are actually miniature woofers. Will the Infinity speakers produce enough bass? Also, I think the driver's side shelf speaker has an amp attached to it. Is this correct? Will there be a PITA fitment issue when I try to swap? Thanks.

Same problem on mine. I just pulled the wires off of the blown speaker and am waiting for some cash to replace it.

There are a couple of threads that address the appropriate speaker size but I'm going with two 8" JL subs so I'll be doing some cutting.

As for swapping them, I beleive that the amp is bolted onto one of the speakers and the speakers are 2ohm speakers (but don't quote me on that).

JL also produced a product called the "stealthbox". Basically two 8" subs with their own custom enclosure. While it was built for the A4 and the fit is not perfect, the archives will show that several people have used it in the S4 with only minimal cutting required (after all the A4 and S4 aren't that different from one another). Worth looking into and I have seriously considered it for some time now. In the mean time, I've found that simply removing the rear shelf to look at the speakers themselves will show that 9/10 the "blown" speaker is due to small tweeter cap having come unglued from the main woofer. A little all purpose glue and you've bought yourself some more time.

The tweeter cap was exactly what happened with mine. It bounces around on the speaker making it sound like the unit is blown. I actually just pulled the cap out and tossed it - no noticeable degradation in sound quality. This was more than a year ago now and the sound system is still fine.

I'll take a look. If it's just a matter of gluing the cone or chucking it altogether that will make things a whole lot easier. Thanks guys!

What - Acutal repairs of stock parts - come on - its and S4. The problem's not fixed till you spend all that you have and then borrow a little bit more to fix everything else why you have it apart.

This is true. However, I'd rather spend the money making her go fast instead of making her sound good...I got the exhaust to take care of that anyway!
