Bizzarre whine from front end

Bizzarre whine from front end
Anyone know what could be causing this? I get a whine in the front (engine or drive train--not sure which) in 1st and 2nd gear -- especially under load (i.e. going up a hill). No fault codes to shed any light on the situation.
