Default Help with CEL 17536 - Fuel Trim; Bank 1 (Mult): System too Lean

Hi;

My CEL went on a week ago that produced the following codes: 17536 - Fuel Trim; Bank 1 (Mult): System too Lean
P1128 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

I had the same problem about 1 year ago and I had a local sport shop check for hose and pressure leaks and everything seemed fine. It was suggested that I clean the MAF which I did and it went away and a year later last week it came back.

I took the car to a supposedly "state of the art" Porsche/ Audi diagnostics shop and they told me that they would have to spend a few hours checking for leaks etc.etc. I was hoping that they would have been able to tell me more than I already knew. It was suggested that I just go ahead and replace the MAF (which may be the most likely culprit) rather than spending hundreds of dollars doing the same thing I did a year ago.

I have an '01 TT 225 HP Quattro with an APR Chip. There is no loss of power and the car runs fine it has 14,000 mls.

Any input and or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much.

It is a vacuum leak. I am having the same problem and found a crack in one of the hoses. Very small, but any king of leak will throw the system off and the car will run lean. There is a diagram of the vacuum lines under the hood. I would check all the hoses for a leak because it is most likely the problem. I don't think it would be the MAF sensor because when mine went the traction control light came on as well as the check engine light and had power loss and the check engine code would be different. If you are not having any power loss the it probabaly isn't the MAF. Good Luck.

The easiest way to find a leak would be to simply listen under the hood while the car is running. You should be able to hear a whistling noise where the leak is...

Hi;

I took the cover off (the one that covers the hoses) did try listened from all angles of the engine and I couldn't hear anything unusual. I also checked all of the hoses, at least the ones I can see, and nothing was loose.

I am going to finally have to take it into the dealer so that they can check it out.

Again, thanks for your input and tip.

Regards.
