Default My 2000 TT 5 speed won't shift into gear with clutch depressed

Just got this car not too long ago, problem after problem. Looking for some insight info or if anybody had the same problem. This is what happened;

I was driving along 5th gear, shifted into neutral and was trying to down shiftn into 3rd I believe - no go. It would not shift into any forward gear, engine runing no noise of any kind. The only way I could get it into gear would be reverse (not very smooth shift with clutch all the way to floor). After shifting to reverse I could shift into first and second for a while. When I try to stop and depressed clutch and brake car dies because it's still in gear (feels like clutch still somewhat engaged). The only way I would start the car is for it to be in first gear when I cranck it, and car jumps forward when starting. Another note, car accelerates slowly with clutch pedal to floor.

Car is not drivable, thankfully not my daily driver. Checked slave valve on the transmission, looks goood no leaks. Clutch pedal feels normal however slight vibration when engine running and fully depressed is present. Stage 3 clutch and light flywheel are in the housing. One more thing, before the incident when engaging clutch would make noise, not everytime but quite frequent. It was kind of whiny short noise. Don't have the money to drop it off to Audi right now.

Any info appreciated. I am leaning toward maybe bearing problem. Thanks.

is internal in your transmission
the pin for the shifter shaft on 1st and 2nd is broken, remove the tranny and replace it, while you there check the synchros and the clutch also

What he just said is pobably right, but I'm leaning towards it might being that the clutch release bearing blew out. If you were hearing that whining noise, sounds to me like that is an old, needing replaced release bearing in the clutch and it finally gave out on you. But I had the same kind of problem with my old car (integra) and it would shift into gear and then pop out and ended up being bad syncros in the tranny so most likely tranny, but could be just a bad release bearing. Probably wrong, but it's a possibility.

And if it is the transmission, I suggest only getting it rebuilt by a good transmission station, don't go cheap. My local shop ended up being at fault bc they put the wrong size cv shafts in my car (leaked all the fluid out) and rebuilt the transmission and it was horrible so they finally just replaced the whole transmission.

Idk the exact location, but it is located where the clutch is so you would probably want to replace the whole clutch. I suggest getting it towed to a transmission shop because they would be able to tell if its the clutch or tranny before you jump to conclusion and by parts that you may not need.

How sure are you it's that pin in the transmission? I got the tranny out and bearing looks good. I never took a transmission apart before not sure if I'm up to the task.

Flywheel on it's way to SPEC for resurfacing and ordering a new clutch kit, maybe a stage 2 this time. Glad it was just a clutch.

Congrats on it just being the clutch! Tranny would have been alot more expensive. Good luck
