Default Clutch Slipping - New Clutch / Flywheel Recommendations

Hey Everyone,
I was driving down the highway this morning in 6th gear and accelerated to pass someone the car didn't enagage and the rpm tack started moving higher, then a few seconds later engaged. To me this mean my clutch is started to slipp (I have this feeling that it is going to do the same thing on the way home from work) and its time to be replaced. I have relitivly low miles 60k on my '01 225hp, but I bought it used and I have a feeling the previous owner was not as nice to the cluch as I was...or it could have been me. I just got the car tuned with the APR 93 octane software a few weeks ago and I was looking for some recommendations for a new clutch and flywheel (preferably Dual Mass because of the noise in the lighter flywheels).

Thanks,
Rob

When you replace your clutch you should also get a new slave cylinder. The 6 speed cars have a concentric design slave cylinder located inside the transmission housing. This a very service unfriendly design that I fought for years to get rid of it on Jeep manual vehicles.

I have an Autotech 9lb flywheel with a South Bend clutch. I really like the combo. Superlight pedal but grabs very well. I can confirm that my clutch is noisy (to the point where some people think my car is running like crap at idle), but if you went with a heavier single-mass it should be a lot quieter (stock is ~25lb). I'm not a huge fan of dual-mass flywheels on modified cars.

also, check the clutch kit you get - many come with a slave cylinder, so you'd be wasting money if you bought one separately. i'm 100% in agreement with Peter about replacement.

Also, USP makes a braided clutch line for $69.

Stick with the OEM Dual mass flywheel for regular daily driving. A lightweight steel flywheel is a nice alternative if you really want a single mass. Stay away from lightweight aluminums.. They're just not street friendly at all.

WE've got a number of clutch options from OEM to stage 3 kits. Shoot me an email or phone call, and we'll be happy to help you out.
