Default Wheel falling off

Hi,
>
> I bought my beautiful Audi TT Roadster in February 2009 from Woods of Sussex as a 2003 model. Last October I was travelling home and if felt like the steering had suddenly failed so I pulled into a garage forcourt and reversed the car out of the way of the pumps and the rear off side wheel fell off. The car was recovered to Woods and it the lower strut had snapped at the hub. They replaced the strutt with a new part and I was
> assurred this was a one off case. Today, after only doing about 400 miles since the last time, the same wheel fell off again, with the new strut broken exactly the same. My husband rang Audi UK afetr it happened the first time and the chap who he spoke to said 'what do you expect -it's an old car?'. My husband said he had found a least two more cases on an Audi
> forum that resulted in serious accidents. The chap laughed and told my husband not to believe everything you read on the Internet. My husband said that he didn't think his wife nearly being killed was a laughing matter.

Two failures of the same control arm would indicate that the rose joint on the hub carrier has siezed and is torquing the end of the control arm as the supension moves. Newer cars have an updated rose joint bushing that is not subseptible to siezing due to corrosion. You should change both sides. As I'm sure you know, it is dangerous and needs attention.
