timing belt

how vital is it to replace the 7 bolts when changing the timing belt and water pump? i am refering to the 7 bolt kit that ecs sells. i called vw to see if they sold them and the dealer acted like he never heard you had to replace bolts when doing the job. he did say he was not sure because it is a audi though, but never heard of it being needed on vws. does anyone have the part numbers for these bolts if i wanted to get them from a dealer? i just want to get around not having to pay 32 bucks for 7 little bolts.{ecs cost with shipping}
