ipod via CD changer wiring?

ipod via CD changer wiring?
Hope I'm asking this in the wrong location, but surely there is a way to lose the factory CD changer for the addition of an ipod? How do I go about this and what will the head unit display if anything?

I have used Blitzsafe and GROM.
On the Blitzsafe i will display CD 1 TRK 99 and will never change. You select music from the ipod.
CD 1 on the GROM behaves just like the Blitzsafe.
Also on the GROM you get the same display, but CD2-6 are ipod playlists and you can use the track change controls on the concert head unit to move thru the lists.
Install is about 30 minutes with radio keys.
