Default my new '05 225TTQC!

Greetings everyone - I just purchased an 05 225TTQC and wanted to share a pic. I previously owned an '01 225TTQC (the black one pictured) as well - missed the small car tank feel and got another...

Question - I purchased a 4yr/48k warranty (non-audi) from the dealership that covers everything (including the instument cluster). I paid A LOT for it - $3300. The car currently has only 41k miles on it. Should I keep this thing??? I can opt out soon and get all the money back...

If so, should I get a different one?

that question may be moot if what i have scheduled to be installed this tuesday voids said warranty - APR tune, dieselgeek sigma 6 short shifter (plus forge big ****)... and i'd like to get the apr 2.5 cat back exhaust.

Thoughts???
Thanks!

I have also just bought a TT (2004 3.2) and was offered a 2yr warranty at $2500 so the price is not too bad at $3300.

However, if you are going to do those mods, I am sure it will void the warranty. IMO cancel, and save the cash for other mods / repairs.

This is my first TT and I am looking forward to it so much - it will be more fun to drive than my old V8Q - and that was fun.

it's the manual.

alright, i was thinking 3300 was pricey, interesting... with the apr option to switch to stock mode, i was hoping to avoid anyone questioning the integrity of the warranty, since it would appear stock - but that would mean no exhaust upgrade. So i guess i need to decide between piece of mind or saving a chunk of change/making mods/and praying nothing happens.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Thanks.

I did a bit of research before declining the warranty... I don't think $3300 is toooooo expensive as it covers you for 4 years. The one offered to me was for 2 years @ $2500, but my car is a year older and has more miles.

It seems most warranties are for around 2 years and cost between $2k - $4k, so yours may not be such a bad deal, especially if you expect it to have a major failure in the next 4 years. Its all about risk analysis as with all insurance. I also found that "Full Coverage" may not actually cover everything - warranty companies have a knack of finding some obscure clause to release them from their apparent committment.

From experience when I was in the UK, wording on the warranty policy may seem to say one thing, but can be written so that it can be interpreted different ways. Obviously tat may be different in the US.

It also depends how mechanically minded you are and what access to repair facilities you have. For example, I declned my warranty as I am able to do most things on a car (except ECU work)

IMO, I would cash it in, and keep the money for future mods / repairs as I said in my original post.

Like you, I would be intrested to hear other opinions.

BTW - I also love the color: its the same as I chose

Regards

Paul

If you plan on only driving 12k per year, maybe so, but I doubt it. It might be difficult to get your moneys worth as it is a 225. If it were an auto (tip or dsg) then maybe so as when they fail they are very expensive to repair. Other than cluster and castestrophic failure of TB, it'd be difficult to rack up $3300 in repairs in the next 48k miles. The 225 turbo and drive train are very robust even with vigorus driving.

The cluster will fail, and probably the SAI pump, but those are about $1100-1500 and $500-800 respectively thru an audi dealer.

TB replacement is 'maintenance' as are most of the other issues you'll have in the next 48k mile, so they're all on your dime. Premature TB failure is on their dime.

FWIW, I've had my 01 225 for almost three years and have only had maintenance costs. Yes, my cluster is failing but there are third party repair places like modulemaster that will repair them for well under $400. Plus, you can repair you own SAI pump for under $10.

just my 2 cents.

thanks for the feedback.

So it looks like i will cancel the warranty. The main reason i got it is that my instr cluster went out twice while under warranty with my first TT, both times the dealer said it would have been $1k to fix. Are the instrument clusters better or less prone to fail in later model years (the one in this '05 seems exactly the same as the '01 I had)?

I don't believe audi did anything in the later years to fix the cluster problem. hell, it took them forever to even admit there was a problem. it'll fail given time.
