Inspection prior to warranty expiring
The manufacturer warranty on my S8 is about to expire (in a month). I bought an extended warranty (NAC) but would like to get things checked and problems fixed under manufaturer warranty if possible.
What are the things that I should get checked and where/what kind of inspection would you recommend.
Thanks.
I explained to them pretty much what you posted above and they performed an inspection for @ $150 if I recall correctly. Afterwards, they went over the systems they inspected with me and discussed what signs they were looking for. They didn't find anything wrong. I'm not an automotive service expert so I don't really know how much more thorough they could have been. So far no problems since transition to extended warranty.
Good luck and let us know what you come up with.

Two examples: the infamous upper control arms. A TSB covers that. Lesser known: early S8's and W12's have a rear diff that was upgraded along the way. The old ones are black, the new ones are silver. If you have rear diff noise, free replace now. Many thousands if later. The black case is the first clue of whether you are more or less vulnerable to an issue here.
Yes, other things could be wrong too besides what are in the TSB's, but the TSB's really are the road map for common issues.
Another suggestion: either buy, borrow or have a mechanic hook a VAG COM tot the car and get a full read out. Not just engine codes, but all of the car modules. Again, any errors will be a roadmap to issues to have looked at. Dealer in theory is supposed to check for codes, but in my repeated experience they don't tend to self initiate. One example on my car done under warranty: it had a code for a faulty headlight washer. I noticed one sprayed before the other, but just thought it was a "feature." nope, the code said there was an issue. Problem reported, code found, and all fixed. Post warranty I wouldn't have bothered unless clearly broken or leaking.
Agreed with prior poster too--have a mechanic go over it. Get under the car and look at every part, every seal area, every place where there may be fluid traces, every typical wear point. Did that on mine, which led to a new radiator under warranty. On my older C5, it resulted in a bunch of suspension parts being replaced with worn rubber and torn seals.
