Fan running with out the AC being on & Temperature gauge moving up!
Hello Friends:
I have an Audi A8 2006 4.2L and recently I started to have some problems. I am in a need of help to solve the problems that i am having with my car: 1. I have been having problems with the AC lately, it is not working. The passenger side blows cold air bur the in the drivers side it only blows hot air, 2. the fan is running without the AC being turned on and 3. I did my oil change and the mechanic added some anit-freeze bc it was running low, today the temperature gauge stated to raise when i stopped but when I started driving it started to go down. Can anyone please give me some tips on what is going on. Thanks for your help

Your air will stop working and the fans will come on if the engine is overheating. If the gauge is going above the halfway mark that's cause for concern and most likely an indication that something in the cooling system is not working properly.
How many miles on the car? Has it had it's thermostat replaced?

ding ding,common problem with the A8 thermostat,also u may have vent slaves
motors that r bad,do u have a vag com,see if u have faults in 08,ac control unit,if u do run basic settings 4 the slaves and see that clears the fault,

04-06 has belt 07+ is chain. Regardless of chain or belt the services still have to be done on them. And the sprocket on the chain driven ones should be changed as well, just not as often as replacing a belt would be.

Open the hood of your A6 4.2...
if it says 5V anywhere on the motor covers (i.e. 40 valves total), its the belt motor. Or if it's a C5 (2000-04 for 4.2), don't even bother--it's a belt. I own one of those. Has to be a later model C6 (or similarly the D3) to have the FSI motor w/ the chain drive.
