Dumb interior question
My question is, do the non-airbag cars (earlier B3s) have a storage bin there like the 4000s did? Or do they all have that pad?
If they came with a storage bin and someone has beige one to sell, I'd be interested in buying it!
The pad is just a pad. I think it's meant, in conjunction with the airbag, to keep your knees from going under the dash if you crash without your seatbelt on. Probably a good idea if you don't wear your seatbelt, but I always do. And honestly the thing just looks like a cancerous growth on the underside of the dash
The pad your talking about which looks like matted yarn is just insulation.
As for the shelf, check car-parts.com for a B3 90 in your area and buy the shelf, it won't cost much at all since it's not what one would say a popular item.
I still haven't seen a single B4 that comes with one in all the CL ads and cars I've seen in person, so I don't know, maybe it's partially rare?
I have a gray one and black one for sale if you're interested, $55 shipped?
Something similar can be seen in the VW models from the same era - when automatic seatbelts started showing up, big, massively ugly kneebars started appearing under the dash of those cars as well. Lucky for us we never got any of that mess in our cars.

Interesting thing about that photo is the car also has almost all the wood of a 90, but the passenger side dash pad of an 80 (no wood trim). Maybe a pre-production car used for photography?
