Default Purchase Opinions

Want to buy an A8, but am curious as to what year i should go for. Honest opinions assuming you would put about $8,000-10,000 down on the car, would you spend closer to $20,000 for an 05 or 06 A8 and only have like a 12K loan from the bank or would you rather jump up closer to $40,000 for an 07-08 A8 with a $30,000 loan left to pay?

Any good recommendations of warranties that covers the problem issues with the A8?

Also, would anyone happen to have the recent manheim auction results of 05-08 A8's or would know the range of price they are going for wholesale?

Thanks!

I would say the answers depends on these questions to ask yourself:

- how much debt do you already carry and how much more are you willing to take on

- how quickly do you plan to repay the loan

- will taking the cash out of savings put your emergency fund at risk

- will you have enough cash left (beside the emergency fund) to pay for repairs (e.g. $2,000 75k mile service)

- are you willing to take a larger depreciation on a newer vehicle

- how long do you plan to keep the A8

These are the things that went/go through my mind on any large ticket purchase.

My 05 A8 went for $20k at wholesale, not sure on any other years.

I personally don't believe in car debt... buy as much car as you have in cash while not touching your emergency funds. Re: Manheim, I picked my 05 (68k) 6 months ago for 20k and that was as is and inline w/ Black Book, Graves and Manheim prices. Good luck.

Great advice!!

I was thinking of keeping it till it's paid off. $20,000 in savings from an 05 rather than an 07 or 08 sounds pretty good especially if there isn't too much difference interior wise and mechanically right?

Sounds like you got a good deal. Were you able to negotiate? Hopefully the prices on A8's are flexible seeing as i don't see many of them around. Or actually that may be a sole reason of why prices don't budge as much!

I would love to be able to buy the car straight up cash, but most situations don't allow. Gotta factor in extended warranty as well. I hear A8's give folks some problems in addition to regular maintenance. Is an 05 A8 for 20K or 25K worth it for the money?

I think if you can get a clean, nicely optioned, below avg mile 05 for under 23k you will have done a good job.

07-08 are mechanically different. No TB and there for a much less expensive 75k service.
