Yikes is right!

That comes out to 16-18 cents per mile....

Unless the car is a "problem child" I'd pass on it.
Don't have it on my 05 FWIW, and probably would have had a stroke if they presented me those prices.

Search for my thread on buy the Audi PPP Platinum warranty. I went through a NY dealership and they were great. For my 04, I paid a bit over $3000 to take it to 100K. That was several years ago, but the prices you are being quoted are ridiculous.

Default warranty

if you are keeping the car up to or near 100k definitely is worth it getting the warranty.
in general an A8 will cost so much more than that to keep up with the repairs it will need.
prices have gone up considerably in the last couple of years as companies learned the high cost of repairs, but they also have learn what to cover and what not, example.
the control arms bushings are no longer covered after 50k miles as they are consider wear item,'
however the complete arms are covered.
most people will tell you to replace the bushings only, for a heavy car like this is not recommendable, actually is not advisable to replace them in any aluminum arm, manufacturers replace them only to save on warranty repairs and after the warranty runs out they happily sell you new complete arms.
but still, get the platinum coverage which will cover the air suspension components.
keep in mind by the time you reach 100k most likely you will need a new intake manifold.
air compressor for the suspension.
a/c compressor
both front axles
alternator
trunk hinge/motor
1 or 2 window motors
rear blind assembly
all the control arms
water pump
rear trans seal
axle seals
rear calipers
MMI display mechanism
transmission
The list goes on and on, keep in mind the high number of electrical/electronic items in this car.
lucky the person who bought the car used and thinks is running good just because he/she don't know how the car performed when new and keeps driving it with broken/worn out components or just simply leave items broke with the excused that they are not needed or not important enough.
if you own your car since new most definitely get the warranty to keep it running at optimum conditions.
check other companies, Fidelity is the carrier for Audi, but there are others that are good
Mercury, Geico, GE, Western General.
ask your insurance carrier about this, careful on "cheaper"companies that will give you a hard time when something breaks and your car will sit at the shop for weeks.
with any extended warranty you can take your car wherever you want not just the dealer.
best of luck.

i got my car at around 52,000 miles. i bought the audi platinum warranty for 3 years/36,000 for $2800. shop around. it is DEFINITELY worth it. i've already had way more in repairs completed.

lmao @ both of those!!!! Plus the mileage on that is hilarious!!

I drive just about 16-20k a year so those prices are a joke. Depends COMPLETELY on the condition of you car right now and what was done in the past.

Maybe all of you just barely drive your car but this is insane paying those prices only to be covered for 36k? Major repairs are the timing belt service $1500, and if your trans has the TSB issue which can be anywhere between $2k. If you don't have any issues with your trans hooting or having any oddities then I say for sure pass on the warranty.

I will state again, it depends completely on what has been done to the car in the past. Little things here and there will be the bulk of your repairs, sure the parts may be expensive but still not worth even close to $3k; especially when your limited to what is equal to less than two years of driving to me.

I have 94k on my car right now. I bought it with 54k. Outside of the trans service and timing belt service the car has been solid. Sure electrical demons pop up out of no where but 75% of the time they have fixed themseleves/ gone away altogether. Only things I have replaced is the nav screen gear system, a $15 brake light switch, and some upper control arm bushings. The real nightmare of the car is what you have to pay for new brake rotors/pads in addition to the cost of new tires.

like i said, i've already gotten way more in repairs than what i paid for the warranty. also, don't you think 16-20k miles/year is a little high?

Not when it is my daily driver commuting between school, work, parents house, and friends houses (just turned 21) I do my fair share of driving. I want to run this car into the ground and get as much as I can out of it; but given that some people only drive 8-12k a year?! Then they would have their 8 for many many years.

I put 5k on mine in the after a year of ownership.

I still bought the extended warranty (it was still under factory at time of purchase. The cost for me was $4995 for 48 months/48k miles platinum coverage through Fidelity for a 2007 A8L W12 with 43k miles on it at the time. I haven't used it yet but the peace of mind is worth it considering the cost of the repairs that were covered by factory warranty prior to expiration and my previous experience with CPO coverage of the 2004 A8L 4.2.
