Correct temperature gauge/sensor reading
Not sure if its just me being over cautious, when running the needle on car temperature gauge does not rise to middle as most cars do, sits at about 10 - 11 o'clock on the gauge. Fan is kicking in and working ok but not sure if the temperature sender is faulty or the thermostat isn't operating properly. Don't want her boiling up! Should the needle rise to 12 o'clock!?
Any help greatly appreciated
Don't you have a 1.8T in your '99 Cab? We are all pretty much 2.8L 12v's here, except for the guys owning multiple cars. You would probably get better answers in the other forums, like the 1.8T engine forum. Who but an Audi engineer, or someone checking part numbers, would know if they used different sensors or gauges for the 1.8T versus the '94-'98 2.8L Cabriolets? Not to mention a different ECM, probably.
I've swapped the gauge, the temp sensor, and the little voltage regulator in the gauge cluster. All I can tell you is that the coolant temp gauge and the fuel level gauge on these cars are buggered.
What's even better, your coolant gauge will decide to work perfectly one of these days. But it will ONLY do so if your fuel gauge reads empty when you have a half-tank of fuel. As soon as the fuel gauge starts reading accurate again, your coolant gauge will drop.
