Help on a 90

Help on a 90
Hey guys,
I am looking into a 1988 audi 90 quattro and I wanted to make sure I wasn't making a mistake.
The body is fine along with the chassis and interior but the guy says the power steering fluid leaks, I think it just needs a new gasket. Also it needs a new windshield (just wondering a ball park price on that). The odometer is broken its stuck at 91000 and some miles.
But my biggest concern was the engine I check the oil and it was really dirty, I was kinda dark however so I couldn't tell if it was low but the engine was making a knocking sound, and it increased along with the revs, I know audis 5 cylinders make strange noises but I don't exactly know what those noises are, I was thinking it might be rod knock but i'm not sure. He has it posted on craigslist for 850 but I was gonna talk him down some.
I'm not afraid of a project but if you let me know what you think that would be great.

I am aware it is not in good condition, and also the odometer is broken. I was just wondering if the audi 2.3 5 cylinder engine makes a ticking/knocking noise when it has dirty/low oil or if it something more serious like lower rod knock. And if a leaking powersteering pump could be fixed with replacing the gaskets.

If you hear a knocking noise when you increase the revs it is probably going to need an engine soon.
Sometimes these cars have lifters that "tap" or "tick", but if you hear a knock from the engine I would avoid purchasing it unless you have plans to replace the engine.

it can be only lifters, but can be something more expensive.
do you know how long does it take fix the odometer, or buy an used one?
thats how much they loved this car. so now image what oil they used and for how long.
i would skip it. unless you wanna do a project.
