I would hide that out of sight if I had to keep that at home. There cannot be many more ugly cars around?

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Well, it's not exactly pretty in my option, but then again I did not grow up with any desire for US cars of the 70's, 80's...or any decade for that matter.
I cannot see why that would display any sign I am a fool, quite the opposite I would have thought?

The car looks like it comes from an era when US car makers were still making cars with live rear axles and drum brakes and a lack of any real ability to go round corners.

I have no intention of causing any offense to anyone but from a European viewpoint, I cannot see much to reminisce about.

I have wanted one since I was 15 and someday I will have one. I know the looks aren't for everyone but they work for me. Just need to add a 3rd spot in the garage =]

I agree on looks, the boxy American cars of the late 70s, early 80s are IMO, the ugliest in all of automotive history. Yes, this car has a live rear axle, rear drum brakes, recirculating ball steering, and no safety whatsoever. I remember many years back when this body style (GM G-body) was used on investigative TV shows as a worst-case example of poor crash safety standards!
However, it's significant because it's a Buick Regal Grand National. I think the GNX version could do 0-60 in 4.7s and 1/4-mile in 13.5s. This was extremely fast acceleration for it's time, and the car is a hit among enthusiasts because the GN/GNX developed all this power using a turbocharger which forces air into an all-iron 3.8L V6. The combination of being turbocharged with a very durable all-iron engine makes this car super easy to mod. Below 10-second 1/4-mile is not at all uncommon.
Basically, the car is a legend. The fact that it was built in limited quantities and limited colors (I've only seen black) helps its status as a collectible.

It's definitely a go fast in a straight line car.

It was the death knell of an era.

This one will also run a 12.15s quarter. The torque is like a punch to your kidney. It wouldn't be my choice either, but dang, it's fun to drive.

It is easy to understand why a big fat dollop of torque made it a popular choice with you folks, I just cannot understand why it was built so ugly, I mean, this is what we had at the same era -
