Audi Cabriolet idle question

Default Audi Cabriolet idle question

For the past week or so, my car's idle will not drop down below 1100 on the rpm gauge. This happened just after i added some trans fluid...is this related?

Did you by chance knock off a vacuum line when you had te dipstick out?

Any word on this guys? My car idles at 12000, and it doesn't drop past that. And recently it started to vibrate/shake a little at idle as well. I'm looking for some direction.

The word is <i>changed</i>. Find the item(s) that have changed. Steve is likely correct to point you towards your vacuum system.

The Vacuum system is extensive, and incorporates other systems not so named. Find a Vacuum System diagram and start with a simple visual <i>and physical</i> check of the hoses. This may involve leak and leak-down checks. The small diameter ones will give you plenty to do; to start. He is suggesting this because these are the easiest, cheapest and most likely to cause said issue.

Afterwards, you can move on down the trouble-shooting list from simple/quick/cheap to more complex/slower/$ i.e. the big vac. hoses, the EVAP System, Crank-case Vent System, the ISV cleaning procedures, etc.

No. Having that high of an idle wil probably trash your transmission, shifting from D to R and back again.

Get in there and check the throttle cable. It's basically the same thing as the brake cable on a 10-speed bike. When the outside of the cable pulls out of the brake itself, it rests on the lip of where it's supposed to fit into, instead of going all the way back in. It stays tight. Same thing here, I think.

You probably knocked your throttle cable when you missed the dipstick tube trying to put it in the first time. Pushing down on the cable without realizing, you knocked the end of the housing out of its mount on the throttle body, and there is no slack for the throttle return to reach idle.

Your check engine light will be on soon, as the car won't like not being able to activate the closed throttle position switch when you let all the way off the gas.

I also noticed that im getting a ticking, could be an actuating sound, 1 second intervals, coming from my rear trunk key hole. Funny thing is, my battery is dead..so how can this be happening?

it sounds like the vacuum pipe for the central locking has come loose from your boot lock or a pipe from the central locking pump which i think is in the boot, i think the pump keeps running trying to lock everything and this drains the battery.
