Default 2001 TT Chipping recommendations?

Not exactly a new question, but in case something has changed since the last time someone asked...

Anyone have any recommendations on which "enhanced" ECU program to purchase? Right now my car is all stock. I'm wondering if there are any other relatively inexpensive mods (air filter maybe) I should get at the same time.

I have the same car! I've been running REVO for over 9 years without a single hiccup. Regarding the intake...ModShack no question.

And I have the same car with APR. It's been APR chipped since 2004.
Modshack, APR, Borla, H&R, Hotchkis, Koni, Brembo, Defcon, SPC, Gruven, Hawk, What is your definition of "relatively inexpensive " ? :-)

BTW the BEST mods are driver improvement. Done a track event??

My car has been chipped since 2002 with a dahlbach chip I have had no problems and amazing performance. I still have the car but it only gets driven once in a while now, but every time I get in it and drive I have a blast! I also changed the intake, diverter valve. nk17 race valve and a 4bar fpr, with the exception of the chip all were relatively inexpensive. I would also recommend an aftermarket exhaust. (but they aren't cheep)

I just purchased a 2001 TT and have the same questions w/r/t which ECM is the best remap. The one I've heard of is the APR - is there a better recommendation or article anyone suggests?

I have a 225 Quattro.

I think the rule of thought on this after many, many years of addressing this, is that you get about the same thing from any of the big name tuners. The differences are in some of the details around the ability to tweak the program or switch between performance and stock modes. The prevailing wisdom is to get the tune from the company that is easiest for you to get to. Pretty simple. They are all good and have withstood the test of time.

You'll also find that they will all benefit from further mods addressing intake and exhaust, and to a lesser degree depending on where you live, a FMIC.

most brand name chips are similar, i just got my 01 TT 225hp and took advantage of the apr xmas special,$450 for a download, one program only. i had a bad apr install issue with my 01 turbo jetta, souldered in very delicate procedure, necessary for a switch chip after several months car QUIT one day, BAD chip and or install, even had to pay for repair which i did not agree with, multiple programs require a souldered apr chip, do not know about others.

Giac since 50k and at 164k and running strong. you can do a cheap/free mod if you have a vagtool and lemmingwinks program to advance the timing a bit. you can also increase fuel a bit and use a manual boost controller. I warn you tho that you get what you pay for. if you or anyone needs the lemmingwinks software let me know.

Default chipping, etc.

There is tons of info and debate on this in the forum archives. I also have a 2001 TT, 180 QC, brilliant black/aviator gray. Initially I had a physical GIAC chip which was installed in 2003 (I think). That was very good, smooth acceleration and a decent increase in power and torque. I upgraded to the flash version, (not a physical modification to the ECU) in 2010 because I had to buy a new (used) ECU. This newer 'chip' seems to produce more power and torque, but it sacrifices smoothness and I find the acceleration 'jerky'. I feel this might be due to a faulty DV valve but noticed the symptoms immediately after installing the newly flashed ECU. Other mods: supersprint exhaust, hyperboost DV, green coolant temp sensor, Eibachs, Bilstiens, Neuspeed rear (anti)swaybar, arm rest (Quality Auto Interiors), Audi all weather floor mats and cargo net, Stramosphere trunk mat. what would I recommend? downpipe replacement before an air intake, and a boost gauge. be careful though because the downpipe *might* give you an always on check engine light.
