Tire Maintenance
Folks:
Some quick questions on tire maintenance:
1- What tire pressure do you keep on your A6? Manual says 40-42 but my service tells me it should be 38.
2- How often do you guys get alignment/rotation
3- For rotation, do you rotate tires on same side or do cross (diagonally)? Many schools of thought on it and therefore asking.

38 front, 35 rear with 18" sport package Conti all seasons
3000 miles. You only align when you need it.
For non-directional tires, cross rotate. Obviously you can't do that with unidirectional.

I've got a BMW 535Xi wagon and under "free maintenance", they say you don't need to rotate the tires. I do it anyway at 6K miles at my local tire shop.
When I put new tires on at 22K (HATED the Goodyear RSA's) I didn't have an alignment done - didn't think it needed it. WRONG - after ~6K, dealer told me new tires (Conti DWS) were "cupping" due to bad alginment.
I now have the alignment checked every 6K miles when the tires are rotated - and the majority of the time, it needs to be realigned for $89 (I get the before and after computer printouts).
A6 might be different, but...

Rotation is also excluded under Audicare and routine maintenance recommendation which makes absolutely no sense to me. Front and rear tires are going to wear at different rates and AWD cars are not supposed to run tires that differ in diameter, front to back or side to side.
