1971 Audi 100 (112) Newbie ride
Im new to the forum, and I do hope this is the right place to post this discussion.
Anyway this is my story and a new project begins
So Last night I picked this car up, full of mixed emotions as it wasn't what I expected. Well for a car of its age I may have expected too much but WTF for R4000 getting a car that actually starts and moves in this day and age is inevitable.
Anyway, the interior is in a great condition. Seats are still neat and there are no cracks or holes. All dashboard instruments work, from the speedometer to fuel and heat gauge, all in good working nic. However the Dashboard has seen its days and there are alot of cracks throughout the dash.
Being a bit sceptical I at one stage didn't want to drive the car all the way from Benoni to my place which is about 60km.
The car has a 1.8 carb engine and 4spd gearbox and has a kick to it. The power is there which I soon found on the R21 highway back home. Up to about 100km/h the drive is smooth and then you get excited and try to push it to about 110km/h and all hell breaks loose. As you hit 110 km/h the car has a hectic shudder and tries to pull you across all lanes and then as you try to tap off and break the shudder gets worse
The ride is very comfortable, the seats are awesome and the car is quite silent even with the hole in the rear silencer. My poor friend that was the tail car probably got high on the fumes and was short of passing out. But now after this experience and R250 petrol worth later I do have faith in this old girl. Some time and a few rands and she'll be back to her former glory.
Parts are difficult to find here.
From what i seen I need new brake discs, shocks, a steering rack and then to overhaul the entire engine.
Please share any advice possible.
Thanks in advance
I will upload more pictures as I get time, oh and please dont laugh at the tail lights, the previous owner replaced them and I do have it now in my possesion
Since I picked her up at night tomorrow will be the first time I get to work on the car so I will take pics as I work.
I'm having problems trying to get shock absorbers and brakes
Anyway, The carb and head was taken off and then I seen this, Seems like a valve dropped and the previous owner just replaced the valve and closed up again. The piston looks really beaten, like some chop set around with a chisel and hammer having a go at it.

. tear the engine apart and go thru it. I haven't cn these in the states at all :-( could you check if there are other model pistons that would fit?anyways, good luck on this project :-)
p.s. your steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car :-P
